Fame Is Powerful — Be Intentional About Who We Celebrate

Welcome back to my Opinion in this episode, I share my thoughts on how we Nigerians sometimes celebrate and make people famous for almost anything, regardless of talent, value, or what they truly represent.

Social media, especially TikTok, is filled with individuals gaining attention for things that may not deserve recognition, while many talented and hardworking people remain unnoticed.

Fame is powerful, but we should be more intentional about who and what we promote. The people we celebrate today can influence the values of tomorrow.

My advice: Think before you post, think before you chase clout, and remember — the internet never forgets.

Lagos Is The Heartbeat Of Afrobeats

Lagos Is The Heartbeat Of Afrobeats

Lagos is the heartbeat of Afrobeats and has produced some of the biggest stars in the world. But with so much talent emerging every day, it's time for greater investment in the entertainment industry.

We need more world-class concert venues, creative spaces, and infrastructure that can help artists, performers, and creators thrive.

Lagos is full of untapped talent — let's create more opportunities for them to shine.

Entertainers Deserve A Fairer Lens

Entertainers Deserve A Fairer Lens

One stereotype society has heavily placed on entertainers is that we're all 'playboys' or 'runs girls'. But the truth is, there are many responsible, family-oriented, and disciplined people in the entertainment industry.

Yes, exploitation and 'sex-for-roles' situations exist, and I strongly condemn anyone who takes advantage of vulnerable people. But let's be honest — this isn't exclusive to entertainment. These issues exist across different industries and sectors.

It's unfair to judge an entire industry based on the actions of a few. Every profession has its good and bad sides, and entertainers deserve to be seen beyond the stereotypes.

About Mohbad

A heartfelt reflection on Mohbad — the artist, the loss, and what the industry must learn from how we treat young talent.

We owe it to the next generation to do better — by them, and by the culture.

Dear Show Promoters — Stop Assuming, Start Specifying

Dear Show Promoters — Stop Assuming, Start Specifying

If you're booking and paying off an artist, be clear on how you want them to promote the show.

A single post on their page could double your reach — and more importantly, authenticate your event in the eyes of fans.

No post? No buzz. Want real traction? Add it to the deal. Or better still — do a rev-share. Let everyone have skin in the game.

It's time to be strategic, not just hopeful.

Detty December Felt Quiet — Here's Why
Episode 6
My Opinion · #06

Detty December Felt Quiet — Here's Why

Detty December felt quiet last year — not because people didn't want vibes, but because the shows just weren't there.

Artists over-priced themselves. Venues couldn't hold the vision.

📍 Investors, we need bigger venues — 50k to 80k proper concert capacity like abroad.

💡 Promoters, consider revenue-sharing. It's time for smart, scalable models.

Let's stop limiting the potential of our entertainment scene. Let's build the future we party in. 🎤🎶🔥

Portable, Patience & Respect
Episode 7
My Opinion · #07

Portable, Patience & Respect

Two things that have always mattered: patience and respect.

In my opinion, if Portable had shown just a little more calm, a bit more respect, and a lot more patience, things would be different by now.

He would've already featured the Big 4.

Artists & Promoters Are Partners, Not Rivals

Artists & Promoters Are Partners, Not Rivals

Artists and promoters are partners, not rivals.

When both sides win, the culture wins. When one side loses, we all lose.

Cheering Faves — and Holding Them Accountable

My Opinion · #10

Cheering Faves — and Holding Them Accountable

It's easy to cheer for our faves when they're winning.

But when mistakes happen, too many fans would rather attack the other side than hold their own accountable.

So You Want To Be A Promoter?

So You Want To Be A Promoter?

So you want to be a promoter?

Here's the truth: it's a tricky business. If you don't understand the game, you'll lose money.

But if you get it right, the feeling of seeing an artist connect with their audience because of YOUR work is priceless.

Behind Every Great Show Is A Promoter

Behind Every Great Show Is A Promoter

Behind every great show is a promoter who took a risk.

Loans, sleepless nights and sacrifices nobody sees. Next time, hug your promoter.

Detty December Needs Infrastructure
Episode 13
My Opinion · #13

Detty December Needs Infrastructure

It wasn't a lack of vibe — it was a lack of infrastructure.

This is a call to government and private investors:

• Build more shortlets, hotels, and serviced apartments

• Invest in better traffic systems and event-day logistics

• And most importantly, create venues that can hold 30k–80k people, like we see in major cities abroad.
